Astrophotography Contest Rules

 

Awards will be given for the best Photographs & CCD images in the following three categories:

 

  1. DEEP-SKY:  Moderate to high power photos of deep-sky objects.
  2. SOLAR SYSTEM:  Medium to higher power lunar, solar, or planetary photos, including comets, meteor showers, eclipses, etc.
  3. WIDE FIELD:  low-power wide field or piggy-back photos of star fields or celestial groupings in the night sky.

 

*** CONTEST RULES ***

1.  ONLY registered Illinois Dark Sky Star Party attendees may participate in the IDSSP Astrophotography Contest.  A photo entrant may enter all three categories, but can only win in one category. 

To ENTER, complete an IDSSP contest entry form available at the REGISTRATION tent and submit the form and photo before 12 noon on Saturday, September 15, 2007.

2. The entry should indicate on the entry form which class they wish the photo to be judged. If possible, the photo entry should include information about the photo’s image (i.e.; what is shown, film or digital, exposure settings, equipment used, etc.) on or next to the picture.

3.  Astrophotos  will be blind-judged on technical merit and aesthetic appeal.  Technical and aesthetic issues assessed by the judges will include degree of technical difficulty, quality of the image given the equipment used, and quality of image processing, image composition.
 
4. NO photo which has won an IDSSP award in previous years may be entered in this year’s contest.

5. CCD images must be on quality print form (i.e.; no electronic images which require computer/TV screens) to display.

Contest winners will be announced later on Saturday afternoon/evening during the IDSSP giveaway.
