Updates

SAS held its first meeting under a new format which does away with normal one person presentations and replaces it with open discussions on club chosen topics. Last nights topic was "Astronomy Pioneers". This was a very lively and educated discussion about many of the men and women who helped astronomy be what it is today. Next month's discussion topic was chosen to be "Practical Mathematics for the Amateur Astronomer". Many possible topics came up including...."Meades Autostar"......"Alignment Stars" and "Star Hopping".

Treasury Report:   Larry handed out the latest numbers.

Planning and Grants:  No Report.

Observing Program:  No Report.

Light Pollution Committee: No Report.

Public and Private Events: There will be a Mars Public Viewing Event on November 5th at Centennial Park in Springfield. SAS members are asked to be on site at 5pm. The public is invited out at 6pm.

Star Party: All seems to be on track for the Star Party. Final preparations are currently being made. Attendance numbers are on par for last years event. We will be at Morgan Stanley on October 2nd to stuff packets for the star party.
