Minutes of the monthly meeting of Sangamon Astronomical Society held October 19th, 2006 at 7:00 PM at Morgan Stanley.

Updates

The SAS Observatory has made significant progress as of late. The dome is fully assembled and painted. A door with a lock has been put on and we are just about ready to put the scope in.

Larry Hardy annouced at this meeting that the club will need to raise its dues to cover the on going costs of the new observatory. The was a good discussion about how much we need to raise and how we should go about raising the dues. Many ideals were offered and no one solution has been voted on as of yet. We will most likely have a special meeting before the next monthly scheduled meeting to decide how to raise the dues.

Anyone wishing to run for a board position should let us know by the November meeting. The Secretary position will need to be filled since Glenn Cunningham will no longer be a board member.

Treasury Report:  Jim Rosenthal handed out the Treasures report and included a detailed report on the IDSSP 2006 and the Observatory.

Planning and Grants:  No Report.

Observing Program:  No Report.

Public and Private Events: The next SAS Event will be November 8th at Centennial Park for the transit of Mercury. This is a public event.

Star Party: The IDSSP 2006 was held Sept 21st - 24th. Although the star party had a rocky start due to weather, the nights were clear and we had good fewing for serveral hours. Thanks to everyone who registered for this years party. We hope you had a good time and we hope to see you next year.
