Minutes of the monthly meeting of Sangamon Astronomical Society held November 17th, 2005 at 7:00 PM at Morgan Stanley.

Updates

SAS board elections will be held at next months meeting. Also a new budget for 2006 will be announced. The next observing night will be December 3rd at Don Jardine's. Tenative dates for Messier Marathon are March 24th - 25th at Jim Edgar State Park. SAS will again provide food for this event.

Treasury Report:   Larry handed out the latest numbers.

Planning and Grants:  No Report.

Observing Program:  No Report.

Light Pollution Committee: No Report.

Public and Private Events: The boy scouts have asked us to do a presentation to help their kids get a badge in Astronomy. We are thinking of making this the first of a on going quarterly event for the public. They will held indoors at Morgan Stanley. We will have a practice run on this coming Tuesday.

Star Party: The tenative dates for next years star party are Sept 21st - 24th.

Presentation

Tonights discussion topic was "Star Hopping ". Tonights topic drew comments from the whole group. The discussion ranged from specific star hopping methods to how to use your finder scope to effectively hop to deep sky objects when there are no good marker stars near by.
