Minutes of the monthly meeting of Sangamon Astronomical Society held May 19th, 2005 at 7:00 PM at Don Jardines Observatory.

Updates

Astronomy Day was held on May 14th at the Rochester Public library. The event started at 4pm and went to about 11pm. The turnout for this years event was less than what was expected, but was still a good event. A bus load of students from Petersburg showed up with their science teacher. An another group of kids from the girl scouts showed up with a list of questions that needed to be answered for their Astronomy badges. Thanks to everyone who came out for this event and thanks to the Rochester Lions Club for providing beverages and popcorn.

SAS will take on the responsibility to sell Marty Morris's Telescope. We will post it on our web site and most likely on Ebay.

Treasury Report:    No Report .

Planning and Grants:  No Report.

Observing Program:  No Report.

Light Pollution Committee: The light pollution committee will try to contact the Mayors chief of staff to help give us a contact in CWLP. With this we hope to form a partnership with the city in reducing light glare.

Public and Private Events: Due to the lower than expected turnout at this years Astronomy Day event, SAS Members decided to hold another event at Centennial Park in Springfield on June 11th. Efforts are now in motion to secure the park. Members also decided a date for the SAS Summer outing. It will be July 29th-30th at the Jim Edgar State Park.

Star Party: There will be a star party committee meeting on June 2nd at 7pm @ Larry Hardy's house.

Presentation

This months presentation was given by Mike Robertson and was about cleaning solutions for telescope lenses. A few members brought in thier scopes and lenes and learned the procedure involved in cleaning thier optics.

The meeting was adjourned at 9pm.
