Minutes of the monthly meeting of Sangamon Astronomical Society held December 21st, 2006 at 7:00 PM at Morgan Stanley.

The new board for 2007 will be Larry Hardy, Ray Watt, Mike Robertson, Jim Rosenthal and Bruce Patterson. Who will hold which office will be determined at next months meeting.

Treasury Report:  Jim Rosenthal was out of town for this meeting so Ray Watt handed out the treasurers report.

Planning and Grants:  No Report.

Observing Program:  No Report.

Public and Private Events: Messier Marathon will be March 16th - 17th.

Star Party: The IDSSP 2007 will be Sept 13th - 16th.

Presentation

Ray Watt brought in materials so members could build their own solar filters for their scopes. Ray ordered Baader film for anyone who wanted to participate in the project. Using foam core board we cut out a circle in the foam core board equal to the outside diameter of our scopes. We then chose the size of the opening we wanted for our filters. Then we cut a piece of card board tubing and attached it to the foam core board. We then attach a ring of thick poster board to create a ring that will fit the outside of our scopes and hold the filter on the scope. Lastely we tape the Baader film to the back of the foam board.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm.
