Minutes of the monthly meeting of Sangamon Astronomical Society held August 19th, 2004 at 7:00 PM at Don Jardine's Observatory.

Updates

On Sunday September 12th we will be stuffing registration packets for the star party. Please come out and help if you can.

SAS Member Larry Trutter has always been involved with the fight against light pollution. He asked the club to help by signing a petition to help the fight. We agreed but also wanted to take it further and decided to form a comittee. This comittee will form the arguement for light pollution control and suggest ways in which business and government can help.

Treasury Report:    Clarke read off his latest treasury report.

Planning and Grants:  We have decided to have our first meeting to discuss where we might want to build a dome. This meeting will be held on Saturday the 18th during the star party. We asked everyone who had an opinion to bring any material, maps, etc to the meeting.

Observing Program:  No Report.

Public and Private Events: SAS did two events over the past couple of months. One to the young girls of Camp CILCA. And another to the kids of Camp Courage.

Star Party: Over 100 people have signed up for the star party to date. We will be sending out an advanced email to all who registered for the star party with last minute info.

The next meeting will be held at Don's house on September 16th so bring your scopes!!!!
