What Is A Star Party???

A Star Party is an event where a astronomy club will get together and invite the public to come out and view the heavens.

A Star Party is usually an annual event but not necessarily.

Star Parties usually draw people from a wide area which results in a wide variety of scopes and equipment at the event.

Star Parties almost always occur on the weekend of a new moon to maximize the view of deep space objects.

You do not need a scope to enjoy a Star Party. A pair of binoculers in enough and if you don't have that, most people will let you look through their scope.

The club will either rent out space in a public park or simply gather in a very dark place.

Most events will span multiple days so to maximize the chance of having at least one good night of viewing.

Some Star Parties will have various vendors come out to offer products to attendees. Some will have guest speakers come out to give educational talks.

Star Parties are a place to meet new people who share a common interest.

The point of a Star Party is to simply gaze up in wonder. It is for the ametuer astronomer and the general public alike.

Now that you know what a Star Party is, why not sign up and come out for a great night or weekend of viewing!!!
